Danish Africa Commission The Danish Government established in April 2008 the Africa Commission on Effective Development Cooperation with Africa. The main goal of the Commission is to put economic growth and employment in Africa higher on the international agenda. With the creation of new and creative strategies, the Commission aims to improve the effectiveness of international development cooperation with Africa.
The overall focus of the Commission will be Youth and Employment. Almost two-thirds of the population in Africa is below 25 years of age. More than 20 per cent or almost 189 million are youth between 15 and 24 years of age. Without education, jobs and prospects of a meaningful future, youth might fuel instability, migration, radicalisation and violent conflict. However, if there are jobs and prospects for a better future, youth is a dynamic driver for development and economic growth. Most African countries face a great challenge in securing better and more education for its youth and providing better employment opportunities. Therefore the International Community, in partnership with Africa, must help to create the millions of new productive jobs that are needed. |
