GLOBAL WARMING

I) GLOBAL WARMING AND NEED TO ALTERNATIVE USE OF BIO GAS FUELS. Global warming has been a major issue of concern in both developed and third world. This growing disaster is among the hot debates taking place world wide among politicians, policy makers, academicians, scientists and even ordinary people. The phenomenon is caused by the human social and economic activities which involve mainly land, water and air environmental degradation and in turn produce huge amount of poisonous gases, liquids and solids especially carbon dioxide. The major activities are use of fuels like petrol and diesels in transportation vehicles like cars, airplanes, and trains, also production of industrial gases and wastes and so on. On the other hand application of poor farming where trees and forests are massively cut down and use of fire woods and charcoal contribute to production of carbon dioxide which in its contact to ozone layer in space distract making it torn. As a result; the ozone do not properly filter the sun ultra rays which also have high heat energy making it travel directly to the earth causing the gradual increase of earth heat. The un controlled heat in turn warms highly, the land, air and water bodies are heated and dried. Lakes, rivers, swamps, oases, and other wet lands are getting heater and are dried. Best examples are the decreasing level of water in lake Victoria, Manyara, drying of lake Eyasi, Natron and degradation of major rivers like Nile, Amozon, Congo and the de freezing of high mountain caps like Kilimanjaro, Kenya, Himalayas and so on. The impact of global warming does not affect poor or rich but all leaving creatures are affected. Calamities like droughts, floods, desertification, hungers, diseases, like cancers, blindness and etc are always affecting people, animals and even fish in seas and lakes. Different efforts taken by individual nations, regional communities and international authorities like United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP) to decrease the trend for global warming have been not succeeded. In most cases rich nations like USA and Europe do not agree to sign conventions to at least reduce the warming affects. Kyoto Convention was a good example for USA to ignore. Also in the other conference take place soon in Shangai on 7th November 2008, China strongly condemned USA and other rich nations. She alleged that “rich nations ignore to cooperate in signing the global warming conventions and act accordingly because they have good technology to protect themselves from the consequences and always safe guard their self interests by focusing to rise their economies. But cam the global warming be reduced under this situations?. By Fatma Ali
