Youth Entrepreneurship – Development Catalyst
Youth entrepreneurship development is a catalyst fo’sr Africa development. One African youth do not lack passion, vision and commitment; rather they need increased access and exposure to the resources and training that would enhance their leadership capacity and goal-oriented projects. There is immense talent, skills and potential in African young people though exploits of such talents are hardly taken. The abject poverty, majority of African people face today compromises the scope of thinking among young entrepreneurs. Once Henry Ford Senior commented that. “My empire was built when I was young as that was the time I became an entrepreneur, the time I used to think, think and think. All brands I have today, its my vision and dreams.”
Entrepreneurship is about; executing viable business venture with an aim of maximizing gains and undertaking exploits that has economic value, and satisfies the consumers of the goods and services. By achieving MDG 8, collectively might create opportunities for young social entrepreneurs who may fully exploit and design economically viable enterprises. Remember fair trade, increased quotas, and removal of tariffs shall entice several young entrepreneurs to fully engage in economic enterprises for their personal growth and development. Young entrepreneurs have an opportunity to venture into almost any viable enterprise. Consider the following; Textile, Fishing, Mining, Farming, Service provision, Hotelier industry, Manufacturing, Import and export, Food processing, Timber processing, Events management, Screen printing among others.
“I believe in young people….they also believe in me. I invest in them …they also invest in me….so I urge you African youth leaders go back to your governments tell them that President Wade is saying invest in us….so that we invest in you…your seat is guaranteed with us…IF only IF you invest in us…..” quoted from His Excellency A. Wade President of Senegal during a courtesy call youth leaders made at his palace in Dakar June 2004.
